Resist! 2nd Edition

Spain, 1936: General Franco and his troops invade Spain, triggering a long period of civil war and oppression. After the Spanish Civil War, a group of Republicans continued the armed struggle, forming resistance groups better known as the "Maquis." Hidden in the mountains, these men and women risked their lives to defend the ideals of democracy and freedom.

Franco's army, the Guardia Civil, and the armed police fought against them, but the Maquis had perfected its guerrilla warfare in France during World War II and was determined to reconquer its homeland. In the minds of the Maquis, the echo of the desire of many of their compatriots resonated: Resist!

Resist! is a fast-paced, card-driven solitaire game in which you take on the role of the Spanish Maquis, fighting against the Franco regime. In a series of rounds, you take on increasingly difficult missions, completing which earns you the points needed to win. Failure to defeat missions and enemies can result in loss. At the end of each round, you must decide whether to end the resistance or risk it and take on another mission.

At the beginning of the game, you assemble a team of twelve Maquis, represented by a deck of cards. The game revolves around deciding whether to hide your Maquis from Franco or reveal them to unlock their full potential. Unfortunately, revealed Maquis are removed from the deck and cannot be used for the rest of the game. While Resist! has some minor deck-building elements, it is primarily a deck-busting game in which you must manage your deck by balancing the decision to defeat the immediate threat with attempting to move on to the next mission.
