In Villagers & Villains, you take on the role of a mayor trying to turn a small hamlet into the most magnificent city in the kingdom. But the path to glory is a rocky one: you not only have to recruit talented citizens and erect buildings, but also defend yourself against sinister villains and unpredictable events.

Gameplay: Construction under Risk

The game is played over six rounds, during which you strategically expand your village. The core of the game is a combination of card selection and dice luck. Every card you add to your village can bring you advantages – but it can also attract challenges.

Game Phases at a Glance

1. Recruitment: In each round, cards are laid out in a central row. Depending on how much you are willing to pay or what risk you take, you choose citizens, buildings, or heroes.

2. Village Life: Your cards generate income, grant you special abilities, or offer protection. Heroes are particularly important for fighting the "Villains" that threaten your village.

3. Overcoming Challenges: Dice rolls often determine whether a construction project succeeds or whether an attack can be fended off. This requires tactical risk management.

4. Victory Points: In the end, the player whose village achieves the highest score through a combination of inhabitants, buildings, and renown wins.
